Class objectives
[Community Project Based Learning (PBL) III]
Cultivation of the capacity for action and cooperation to resolve regional issues. This was done in cooperation with authorities such as regional municipalities and nonprofit organizations (NPOs), through practical approaches to regional issues based on detailed issue analysis and action plans.
Class content
[Community PBL III]
The students in this course proposed, planned, and carried out new approaches to the solution of regional issues in Chiba Prefecture and its municipalities with whom the university has partnership agreements. The course focused on the internationalization of local regions by exploring the resolution of issues faced by foreign residents. During Fiscal Year 2019, students researched the study support initiatives of volunteer organizations and local elementary and junior high schools in Yotsukaido City and Chiba City for children with foreign roots.

Two Chiba University seniors spent 10 days-September 15 (Sunday) to September 24 (Tuesday), 2019-at the Stony Brook University, The State University of New York. In accordance with their respective research interests, they interviewed local students and audited classes on site. With the guidance of local students, they also observed practical examples of consideration for religious diversity within the university campus and paid a visit to a nearby Islamic religious facility.

As part of their post-study abroad education, the seniors organized the data collated during their research abroad into English-language slides for presentation, uploaded them on the COIL-Moodle, and requested for comments. The juniors worked together to create a picture book on multicultural education themes, which they distributed to public elementary schools and libraries in Yotsukaido City and Chiba City. The completed picture book data was also uploaded to the COIL-Moodle for comments.

授業目的
【地域PBL型実習III】
地域の課題解決のために、地方自治体など行政組織やNPO団体と協働し、詳細な課題分析、行動計画に基づき、地域課題への実践的な取り組みを通じて、実行力ならびに協働力を養成する。
授業内容
【地域PBL型実習III】
本学が連携協定を締結する千葉県や県内各市町村において、地域の諸課題を解決に導くための新しい取り組みを自分たちで考案、企画、実施する授業科目。テーマは「地域の国際化」であり、外国籍住民が抱える諸課題の解決を探る。2020年度は四街道市と千葉市において、外国につながる子どもたちの学習支援活動を行うボランティア団体や地域の小中学校の取組みについて調べた。
【派遣】
2019年9月15日（日）～24日（火）の計10日（米国滞在9日）、本学の4年生2名がストーニーブルック校に滞在した。それぞれの研究関心に基づき、現地学生にインタビュー調査を実施したほか、現地の授業を聴講した。また現地学生の案内で、大学構内の宗教的多様性への配慮に関する実践例を視察したほか、周辺のイスラームの宗教施設を訪問調査した。

4年生は、派遣後の事後教育として、派遣時の調査で得たデータを英語の発表スライドにまとめ、COIL-Moodle上で公表してコメントを求めた。3年生は、多文化教育をテーマにした絵本を共同制作し、四街道市と千葉市の公立小学校や公立図書館に配布した。制作した絵本のデータは、COIL-Moodle上で公表しコメントを求めた。
