Class objectives

For Japanese and American students to learn from each other through online collaboration, observing a single issue from multiple perspectives.

Class content

Selected participants from the University of Alabama and students enrolled in an intensive course at Chiba University were divided into two mixed teams, with each team creating a presentation on the Middle East while communicating online. The recorded presentations were viewed by regular students at the University of Alabama, and asynchronously conducted a Q&A session. This process gave students the opportunity to proactively enhance their awareness of the Middle East, a cultural area that differs from both Japan and the United States.
Students, especially those who participated in the mixed teams, reflected that it was an unprecedented learning experience for both the U.S. and Japan. Engaging in international cooperative study across the Pacific Ocean also provided an experiential simulation of future forms of work.

Discussion was stimulated by the TAs, who are graduate students specializing in Middle Eastern politics, and served as facilitators for each team.

授業目的

日米両国の学生がオンライン上の共同作業を通じて、一つの問題を多角的に捉え、学び合うこと。

授業内容

アラバマ大学の選抜メンバーと千葉大の集中講義履修者が日米混合の2チームに分かれ、オンラインで連絡を取り合いながらそれぞれのチームが中東をテーマとするプレゼンテーションを作成した。録画したプレゼンテーションはアラバマ大学の一般学生が視聴し、非同期で質疑応答を実施した。この過程は、中東という日本とも米国とも異なる文化圏についての認識を主体的に深める機会となった。
特に混合チームに参加した学生は、日米双方ともこれまでにない形式の学習経験であったと振り返っていた。太平洋を挟んだ国際協働学修により未来の仕事の形を疑似体験する側面も持っていたと言える。
